About CEMORY initiative

The CEMORY project, led by the Jagiellonian University in Kraków (Poland) focuses on the topic of the Central European memory of the Holocaust in a multidimentional and multicultural perspective. The project objective is to approach these issues on three main levels: 1) research, 2) education, and 3) remembrance through artistic engagement

The CEMORY consortium consists of: Jagiellonian University in Kraków (Coordinator) with five Beneficiaries: The Institute of Public Policies, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Forum 2000 Foundation, OFF School Foundation, Jedność Foundation and three Affiliated Entities: Borderland Foundation Sejny, Valašské Meziříčí (Valmez) Town and Oświęcim Institute for Human Rights.

The CEMORY project approaches 21st century Europe through the perspective of its difficult past and aim to utilize the memory and knowledge of the Holocaust to enforce human rights, counter discrimination and xenophobia, as well as to develop productive and future-oriented ways of remembering the Holocaust, which is in accordance with European Union policies and values.

In accordance with the CEMORY project objectives, anticipated results include: 1. improved knowledge of the Holocaust in a multicultural and multidimensional perspective (in both academic and public sphere), 2. increased awareness of discrimination 3. enhanced public engagement in educational and remembrance practices related to the Holocaust and in activities promoting equality and inclusion as fundamental social values.
